Painting....

This is what happens when i have free time... I'm let loose with a paintbrush, cause I feel underskilled at the moment i always start with something easy that wont knock my confidence so here are a few paintings i have bosched out recently! I really enjoy them and look great in my parents new kitchen. They are on square thick canvas about 30cm square. The photos aren't a great representation but you get the picture. Pun not intended.

Tommy Hilfiger

So.... I have a Job!! Well havent started but it's exciting, I'm a big nautical fan so this is definately an appropriate path, I'm hoping to learn alot of corporate know-how through this as previously working alone in boutiques I've had alot of freedom and different opportunities. Anyway new pastures.

Grace Kelly at the V&A

My understanding of Grace Kelly is very little so this was an interesting exhibition, I think i found her life more interesting than the clothes for once. Obviously it was a celebratory exhibition of her life, but never the less she seemed quite a well rounded person with many assets, a fantastic carreer and family life. Her wardrobe was fully stocked with 50's classics, beautiful 2 piece suits, all outfits fully co-ordinated unlike today's mutilayering-clash on purpose fashion. You could see how amazingly well taylored everything was and beautiful quality fabrics. However as a fashion exhibition for a creative person like myself i would say it was largely un inspirinspiring it's not the sort of thing I can personally get ideas from, the construction was reasonably (within reason) simple and not too detailed, but as I said at the begining very interesting on a more personal note.
I'd say the highlight were the films, they really added a good dynamic an immediate visual insight into her life, especially the imagery from her wedding. The video also showed how the clothing would have looked worn and amongst similar fashion at the time, also without the ageing the clothes had enperienced over the last few decades. However needless to be so picky, the image here is an iconic dress from the exhibition, a feminine clasic.

Lost in time

Ok so as you can see my blog is going amazingly.... thats if you count abandonment as a positive.
Instead of giving a thoroughly boring review of what i've done in the last year I'll just chuck it up when i've got it all digitalized.
I have now finished my 2nd year of my fashion studies degree, rather horrifyingly already so have spent the last 3 weeks doing all sorts of stuff. I've been in london a bit, bought some fabric to make some dresses this summer, went to the V&A, sorted out my CV to get a job and re-kindling my love affair with art which has been lost amongst the pressure of my last project which unfortunately squashed everything i loved about design. However I am intent on spending the summer revitalizing and creating and growing my drawing skills which i fear are dwindling after 2 years of no life drawing (i do not count 1st year drawing project- the tutor counted scraping a purple pastle across a page and tracing a imagine from a magazine onto it as a valid drawing technique). Somehow i dont think so.

So this piece is a garment i made on my foundation, it says alot about what i make and what i design, usually colourful sculptural pieces but made from light weightless fabric. I dont know whether this is my style or whether its a binding keeping my ideas on a leash, well either or its working for me well so far! The 2nd image are 2 pieces from my 1st year as a fashion student, taking my inspiration from anemone's.

Wall paper at somerset house

Ok so its time to get on this blogging band wagon, and about 2 minutes into I'm finding it quite absorbing.
On saturday the 21st I'm going to somerset house to see the show studio exhibition... well thats the plan so i was doing a bit of research into what i might see there and anything i might be interested in, and i came across this wall paper. I love the style the illustrated and gentle nature of the lines, it has some really quirky elements like the lock on the girls crotch. Very feminine tho a bit gender specific, but i'd happily have it in my house! The 2 tone colour of the lines has a quite historic appeal like the japanese drawings in blue on the white.
